Banksy B-Boy Buff Battle

Banksy’s recent stencil in Gillett Square in Dalston pictured above is at the heart of a controversy between the local government which wants to buff it, and a community organization, Hackney Co-operative Developments, which wants it to stay. HCD apparently holds the lease to the building on which it is painted. In a recent similar battle, the couple in Boston who wanted to keep their Shepard Fairey mural get to do so until the end of the Shepard’s ICA exhibit, and do not have to pay a $500 fine.
